Launch the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program 19 spacecraft

The DMSP program was originally known as DSAP (Defense System Applications Program) and DAPP (Defense Acquisition and Processing Program).
The DMSP mission is to provide global visible and infrared cloud data and other specialized meteorological, oceanographic, and solar-geophysical data in support of worldwide DoD, DoC, and NASA operations.
The United States Air Force (USAF) control constellation of two near-polar, sun-synchronous satellites for military purposes since the first launches of Block 1 DMSP satellites in 1962.

A United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket, designated AV-044, will launch the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program 19 spacecraft for the U.S. Air Force. Built by Lockheed Martin, this polar-orbiting weather satellite will be used by the military for global weather forecasting. The rocket will fly in the 401 vehicle configuration with a four-meter fairing, no solid rocket boosters and a single-engine Centaur upper stage. A Atlas V rocket is ready for liftoff April 3 from Space Launch Complex 3 East at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. The launch window will open at 7:46 a.m. PDT.
